Buried Treasure, Second Look

For the session to be discussed on November 15, 2026
Matthew 25:14–30

David Cassady
Daniel Glaze

We reflect on the parable of the talents, noting that a “talent” was an enormous sum and that burying money could be seen as responsible. We weigh two readings: the master as God calling us to trust and risk, or the master as a harsh exploiter with the third slave as a truth-teller. Either way, we notice how “I was afraid” drives the story and can shape our picture of God. We connect this passage with the surrounding teachings on readiness and measure “return” by care for the least of these, then ask what we’ve buried and what faithful risk we can take.
