We discuss what an “11th commandment” might be, then reflect on the Ten Commandments as God’s gift to a people already rescued from slavery—guidance for living freely, not a tool for judgment or public spectacle. We note how people often want to install the commandments in public places without knowing or internalizing them, and how any public display becomes an interpretation tied to power and even Christian nationalism. We explore covenant, awe versus terror, and close with a paraphrase framing each commandment as a response to God’s love and liberation.
