We reflect on how revisiting childhood stories and shows reveals darker realities, then apply that to Exodus’ Red Sea account: we often turn violent, costly rescues into cheerful decor and children’s lessons, skipping the drowned bodies and the moral unease of celebrating victory. We compare this to war memories, insisting we tell the truth without voyeurism, acknowledge what deliverance costs God and others, and resist arrogant “God is on our side” thinking. We aim for honest conversation with adults and teens that holds awe, grief, and humility together.
