John 17:1-11
David Cassady
Nikki Hardeman
David Adams
Daniel Glaze
In this episode Daniel frames John 17 as Jesus’ “high priestly prayer,” the longest recorded prayer of Jesus, offered on the night of his arrest after the Last Supper, praying first for himself and then for his disciples’ protection and unity, and noting that Jesus also prays for future believers. The group reflects on prayer’s intimacy and comfort, John’s community context, and how Jesus prays not to prevent harm but to keep followers from being scattered and divided. They discuss modern division, the role of relationship and power, how diversity shapes experiences of being prayed for, and close with a Thomas Merton prayer for openness and unity.
