1 Peter 2:2-10
David Cassady
David Adams
Jaye Peabody Smith
Daniel Glaze
In this episode we discuss 1 Peter 2:2–10 and the human longing to belong, sharing personal stories of exclusion and welcome. Daniel introduces the passage with a story of a lonely boy who “pretends” to belong, then explains that 1 Peter addresses marginalized Gentile Christians in Asia Minor and declares them “a chosen race…a royal priesthood…God’s own people,” like “living stones” forming a spiritual house where every person matters. The group acknowledges the church’s history of excluding people (women, Black people, formerly incarcerated, LGBTQ people, disabled and neurodivergent individuals) and calls for intentional hospitality, resisting cliques, and adjusting church life so outsiders can feel at home, modeling a different, love-mortared community that values diversity.
