In this Easter episode we reflect on Mary Magdalene at the tomb “while it is still dark,” staying, weeping, hearing Jesus speak her name, and becoming the first resurrection preacher: “I have seen the Lord.” We connect “lowering hope into the ground” to graveside ministry, Frederick Buechner’s childhood loss and later calling, and our world’s present suffering, insisting resurrection can still bring new possibilities. We discuss Mary’s intimacy with Jesus’ voice, the disciples leaving her, and share Buechner on Easter’s empty tomb and our own search for Jesus’ face.
