We reflect on how easily we miss what’s right in front of us—whether it’s misplaced everyday items or, more importantly, people and God’s work around us. Using the story of a man born blind, we consider how others focus on blame and certainty, while Jesus exposes deeper blindness: the pride of claiming we already see clearly. We connect this to our divided society, to people leaving church because their questions are shut down, and to justice and empathy—how poverty and suffering can become invisible when we don’t want the responsibility of responding. Through examples from art, music, and photography, we are reminded that learning to look closely, step back, and notice what’s above and below can change how we live, pray, and act, even when we don’t have easy answers.
