Before the Session

Facilitator: In advance of the session

  • Review today’s scripture text and the session activities to help better facilitate the discussion.
  • Have the Bible Background Video ready to view.
  • In many instances, the full meaning of a passage is hard to grasp from a single translation. Having a few different versions available may help the group understand and apply today’s passage.
  • Have available some means of taking notes (see Context).
  • Encourage your group to listen to the FaithElement podcast ahead of the next session (Share the link via email or social media).

Context

  • If we were to choose sides for an activity right now, for what do you think you would probably be the first or last pick and why?
  • How does it feel to be picked either consistently last or first at something?
  • Why do you think some people tend to be consistently “first picks” or “last picks” in life?
  • How do we typically bear the burden of making choices about how someone is more or less valuable for a given purpose?
  • What affect might faith have on the choices we make about who is more or less valuable, even though we know that God values us all equally?
