Before the Session
- Have the Bible Background Video ready to view.
- Review today’s scripture text and the session activities to help better facilitate the discussion.
- Encourage your group to listen to the Faithelement podcast ahead of the next session (Share the link via email or social media).
Context
Share together the video of Spock’s Death (Stop at 3:42) and ask:
- What about this scene most stands out to you and why?
- Why do you think we so prominently include a willingness to sacrifice for others in our hero stories?
- Given that the character who made the sacrifice in this scene is usually portrayed as emotionless and detached, what is the significance of his doing this?
- To what degree is seeking the best for everyone else a logical versus an emotional decision and why?
- What about the world in which we live is defined by the sacrifices some people have made?
- Who in your life would you say has made the most sacrifices for you, and why?
