Introduction

Today we are in the book of 1 Kings 19:9-18. This is the story of Elijah hearing God in silence when he is in the cave on Mt. Horeb, which was another name for Mt. Sinai. We often hear this story and focus on hearing God in quietness and stillness, however, it is helpful for us to understand what is going on in Elijah’s life at this point and in the story of Israel and her prophets.
