Introduction

Today’s text is found in Malachi 3:1-4. In this text, Malachi speaks of a messenger. The role of this messenger is to make way for the incoming justice and love of God in our world. We are called to listen to the messengers of old and present-day who call us to righteous and just living so that we are prepared to experience God’s covenant love and relationship with us.

See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight—indeed, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts. But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears?
