Introduction

Today we will be considering together Paul’s 1st letter to the church at Corinth in 1 Corinthians 2:1-16. This first letter to the Corinthians is Paul’s response to a letter they wrote to him inquiring about different practices they had disagreements about like baptism, communion, worship practices, and ethics. Through the letter, Paul addresses their specific questions, but throughout the letter we see him trying to get them to see beyond their disagreements and divisions to see through the ministry of the cross.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:1-16

Yet among the mature we do speak wisdom, though it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to perish. But we speak God’s wisdom, secret and hidden, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
