Introduction
Last week we considered the parable of the wicked tenants. This parable was one of the ways that Jesus responded to those who questioned His authority. Today’s text, which is found in Matthew 22:1–14, is often called the parable of the wedding banquet. It is another way that Jesus responds to those who question His authority.

Once more Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they would not come.
