Ripe for Destruction

Session 8.29 Starter

Special Session & Resources

In Response to Violence in Nice, France

Introduction

Amos cautions his hearers of the danger of trampling the poor and neglected with our deeds (or misdeeds). He seems to indicate that there will be retribution for our having treated persons this way. Is it that God punishes us for our sinfulness to other human beings, or do we punish ourselves by having such broken relationships between us?

He said, “Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A basket of summer fruit.” Then the Lord said to me, The end has come upon my people Israel; I will never again pass them by. The songs of the temple shall become wailings in that day,” says the Lord God; “the dead bodies shall be many, cast out in every place. Be silent!”
