Introduction

We are once again together in the Psalter – this time in chapter 78 focusing on selected verses 1-7 and 34-38. This psalm had a two-fold purpose for the Israelites when it was used in worship. It first serves as a celebration of God’s goodness to Israel and secondly, it serves as a reminder of the harsh realities of Israel’s past failures to be faithful to God and to God’s covenant with them.
