Introduction

In the context of the Christian year, we have moved from Christmastide to Epiphany. In the season of Christmas we focus on the Incarnation – the indwelling of God among us. In the season of Epiphany, we focus on what is revealed to us about God through the life and ministry of Jesus. This week we are looking at the story of the calling of the first disciples as it is told in John’s gospel in 1:29-42, but we will be focusing heavily on the 2nd half of the passage.

Scripture: John 1:29-42​

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now; for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness.”
