Before the Session
- Have the Bible Background Video ready to view.
- Review today’s scripture text and the session activities to help better facilitate the discussion.
- Encourage your group to listen to the Faithelement podcast ahead of the next session (Share the link via email or social media).
Context
Start by playing the I Am video clip and asking questions like:
- In the course of your everyday life, how often do you need to be reminded of your individual value and why?
- Why do you think that, if someone could constantly remind people of their worth, those people would watch them on TV, buy their book, and send them cash on occasion?
- In what ways can either positive or negative words be damaging to you?
- Bearing in mind that some jokes are funny because there is an element of truth in them, what kind of power might their actually be in “crippling guilt?”
- Where should we draw the line between being positive about ourselves in Christ and being aware of our shortcomings?
- Mr. Osteen’s teaching aside, how might someone come to feel confident in God’s working and power in their lives?
