Context

Say: In the film Cast Away, Tom Hanks plays Chuck Noland, a FedEx executive who becomes stranded on an uninhabited island after his plane crashes in the South Pacific. After several years of struggling to survive on the island alone, Chuck is both physically and mentally exhausted.

One pivotal scene shows Chuck barely able to keep his eyes open as he tries to construct a small fire to signal any passing ships or planes. He’s been deprived of sufficient sleep for so long that his movements are sluggish and uncoordinated. He drops the few meager supplies he has and sways unsteadily on his feet. Finally, Chuck collapses from utter fatigue and falls into a deep sleep right there on the beach.
